Breaker/grozer pliers are used to break and finish glass in a controlled manner, a technique known as grozing. The flat side that is used for breaking a scored lines and the curved side is used for grozing or 'chewing off' flares from the edge of broken glass. Both jaws are serrated for removing flares and small bits of glass.
